Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics, Malaysia 2020?

For the first time a South American city will host the Olympic Games. Rio de Janeiro, on the seaside of Brazil had to beat Madrid (Spain), Chicago (US) and Tokyo (Japan) to receive the 2016 Olympics.

Rio de Janeiro bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics and succeeded; can Malaysia emulate and clinch the 2020 Summer Olympic; in conjunction hence celebration with Malaysia's Vision 2020 as a fully developed nation????

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was in Copenhagen, Denmark—where the vote took place—to hear the good news, along with Brazilian soccer legend Pele (above).

Challenges in the vision

Mahathir outlined nine strategic challenges that Malaysia must overcome to achieve Vision 2020.

Challenge 1: Establishing a united Malaysian nation made up of one Bangsa Malaysia (Malaysian Race).
Challenge 2: Creating a psychologically liberated, secure and developed Malaysian society.
Challenge 3: Fostering and developing a mature democratic society.
Challenge 4: Establishing a fully moral and ethical society.
Challenge 5: Establishing a matured liberal and tolerant society.
Challenge 6: Establishing a scientific and progressive society.
Challenge 7: Establishing a fully caring society.
Challenge 8: Ensuring an economically just society, in which there is a fair and equitable distribution of the wealth of the nation.
Challenge 9: Establishing a prosperous society with an economy that is fully competitive, dynamic, robust and resilient.

Malaysia’s drop in WEF global competitiveness rankings to No. 24 threatens to undermine and disrupt Vision 2020 of transforming Malaysia into a developed nation with a per capita income of USD 12,000 by 2020 from the present USD7,000.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had recently said that Malaysia needs to achieve an annual growth of 8% annually (considered impossible under current global recession) for the next 10 years if Malaysia is to achieve Vision 2020.

Maybe (re)setting our objectives, sights, missions and visions on clinching the 2020 Summer Olympic would just do it (momentum) together and motivate us to achieve Vision 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!
