KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9, 2009): FORMER transport minister Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik should also be investigated for his part in the Port Klang Free Zone (PFKZ) scandal, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya) said today.
Pua, who made the call following the release of the PAC report on the fiasco last week, said Ling had displayed "selective memory loss" during his testimony to the committee.
He said the former MCA leader had answered "I cannot remember" or its equivalent at least 11 times when posed with certain key questions regarding the project, which raised doubts as to the veracity of his replies. ( How unconventional and unprofessional of this bloody good for nothing ex-minister!)
"The situation even reached a point of incredulity when PAC deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw (DAP-Kepong) asked: ‘Tun, did you know of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd or KDSB (the PKFZ turnkey developer), before you left the ministry?’ and Ling responded with ‘I may have heard about it’."
The latest presidential directive of prohibiting the MCA elected representatives from patronizing nightspots is seen as a move to burnish the party’s public image that was once heavily tainted by its triad connection.
Beyond the kudos and brickbats for the said move, little did the public and the party members realize that the immediate past president Ling Liong Sik ( now being conferred the federal award of Tun-ship ) had been one who frequented the nightspots with the company of cronies.
Being alcoholic and of indecent behavior at such spots, ( most of which operated by his close triad-buddy Dato’ Tee Yam who is now under preventive detention over alleged involvement in vice and money laundering activities ) did not seem to disqualify Ling from being conferred such a prestigious award of the highest degree.
Likewise, the present MCA Deputy President Chan Kong Choy, a habitual womanizer who at the same time is purportedly linked to Tee Yam and the underworld is equally immune to any censure against indiscipline among the serving political leaders.
Ong Ka Ting himself would serve as another classic example of such immunity following his exposed triad connection was found to have caused no dent to his ministerial career.
The triad connection in MCA which was exposed by its own youth chief, Ong Tee Keat, (Now President ) though damaging to the party, is only tip of the iceberg. The real menace to the party and the community it claims to represent is far more serious if the magnitude and impact of the various triad-related activities are to be assessed and exposed.
This series serves to detail the collaboration of two infamous triad kingpins in the Klang Valley with the various MCA leaders as well as the ways they could easily infiltrate into the social fabric of the Chinese community. The infamous duo were virtually nobody when they first started their triad-related activities as pimps and loan sharks. Now that after almost two decades of networking, they had managed to carve their niche in the triad world. They are owning a wide spectrum of business ventures, ranging from the lawful corporate ventures in housing development, movie and entertainment production to the underground vice and loan shark operations.
Even so, with a semblance of generous contribution to the charitable cause, not only had they been able to camouflage their triad activities, they had also managed to make inroads into the local political and royal circles which ultimately had conferred upon them with “datukship”.
Conferring the prestigious Tunship to someone who frequented vice dents and involved with illegal triads would only make a mockery of our nation & forefathers who's initial intention was to "utilized" Tunships to recognize those dignitaries who had help to build this beloved nation of ours in the most noble ways!
