It must have been a move within a move , a strategy within a strategy that prompted DS Ong Ka Ting to have risked himself for this unconventional return to force a unprecedented contest on the MCA stewardship with his "hand-pick" successor in DS Ong Tee Keat.
KUALA LUMPUR: The leaders MCA members choose during the party’s election on March 28 will be the best for them, Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said. His sudden re emergence was made to be seen as resounding requests from the MCA grassroots but in actual fact more to that Ong Ka Ting could not bear to see in front of his own eyes the future leadership of MCA being taken over by alas Edison Chen of Hong Kong in DS Chua Soi Lek!
“What is important is that the MCA crisis is solved quickly and the leadership is accepted by MCA members as well as the Chinese community,” he told reporters at his official residence after receiving Malaysian badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei yesterday.
When asked if former party president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting’s decision to run for the top post of the party would affect the Barisan, Najib said winning the next general election could not be decided by one factor only.
“There are a few factors. We cannot say it is due to Ong Tee Keat’s or Ong Ka Ting’s leadership. It depends on the situation,” said Najib.
Premier Najib on the other hand had played down UMNO's hidden hands in this MCA crisis for any further "actions" would aggravate the social sentiments of the majority Malaysians of Chinese origins.
In a nutshell, the further postponements of revealing further truth behind PKFZ scandal by "assigning" the reporting part to the chief secretary of the government some time ago was a clear sign to undermine DS Ong Tee Keat's creditability and accountability in handling such hot topic.
Isn't it true to say that a strong MCA lead by DS Ong Tee Keat's strong, firm, scandal free fist unwittingly implies the weakness, incapability, and corrupted Barisan counterpart in UMNO?
Najib's silence was seen as a perfect timing in view of the re emergence of DS Ong Ka Ting; an UMNO's yes-man during his tenure ( as Minister and MCA President ) to bow to UMNO's tyrannic rule! Najib's only wish now is that Ka Ting takes over the MCA helm come March 28th eventually. On surface this must have satisfied the central delegates and Malaysians at large; and brought timely overjoy to UMNO for getting rid of the thorn in the flesh in the no-nonsense DS Ong Tee Keat - a politician too hard to handle when you are corrupted!
However, should you dig further downwards, Ka Ting's sudden return must have boosted Tee Keat for :-
1. It split Edison Chua's camp where a faction of ex-Ka Ting's men now with Edison opted for a cleaner image leader when they have a choice!
2. Ka Ting's return meant Liow Tiong Lai would have no opportunity to take on Tee Keat as many of his men yearned for. The battle is lost before it had even began!
3. The next probable line up was to see Edison Chua takes on Liow Tiong Lai for the Deputy President post, back to square one where DS Ong Tee Keat watch happily to his delight from the sideline.
4. As accordance to a recent NTV7 survey, what's left was the 50%-50% finale between 2 king-pins in their own right both born in the Monkey Year of 1956 incidentally both in the month of November to call it a day with MCA's stewardship, how unconventional, controversial yet how fitting indeed! And after all is done with the MCA party election come March 28th, one wonders the winner (really) takes it all? The looser had to fall?
Not quite as the 13th unlucky Malaysian General Election is just a round the corner and the incumbent MCA President have to live up to the various expectations of the Malaysian Chinese to survive another onslaught!
Winning and Losing is but a state of mind, depending on where you are and when you would be!
